1heart’ health programs are a community-related health program that covers a wide range of preventive healthcare curricula that consists of measures taken for disease prevention, as opposed to disease treatment which focuses on the maintenance, protection, and improvement of the health status of targeted communities and population groups (kids and women) – our target groups.
Just as health comprises of a variety of physical and mental states, so does disease and disability, which are affected by environmental factors, genetic predisposition, disease agents, and lifestyle choices. Health, disease, and disability are dynamic processes which begin before individuals realize they are affected. Disease prevention relies on anticipatory actions that can be categorized as primal, primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. Each category focuses on a different level and approaches towards the community or population group.
To prevent health outbreaks and the spread of killer diseases already present in our society, 1heart decided to focus on the following life-threatening illnesses to better the present and future Liberian society by tackling: mental health, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis or unforeseen outbreaks.
